During April this year I became aware of a small lump in my neck and was referred to a Maxillofacial Consultant carried out by Mr Aakshay Gulati. He was personable, approachable and very thorough, answering all questions openly and he immediately gave me confidence in his knowledge and ability.

Further examinations by Ultra Sound and MRI established I had a tumour on one of my salivary glands that needed to be removed. It was comforting to know the treatment suggested by Mr Gulati was reviewed and agreed unchanged by a cancer specialist group in Hospital.

Options regarding the location for the procedure were discussed with Mr Gulati and KIMS Hospital in Maidstone was chosen and the date agreed.

KIMS has only been open for about a year and is easy to find with plenty of car parking. My initial reaction to the hospital was extremely favourable. All the staff were friendly and efficient from the moment I entered the building. The ward I was allocated was overlooking countryside and was consequently nice and quiet.

Mr Gulati and the anaesthetist visited pre operation and their attitude and approach added to my confidence level regarding their ability. Following the procedure I was monitored frequently by highly attentive nursing staff and I am certain this helped to keep the recovery period to a minimum. I stayed in hospital for one night and released at the end of the day after the operation.

Two subsequent follow-up appointments have taken place and I was highly delighted to learn the operation had been a complete success and no further treatment was required.

Should I require any further maxillofacial procedures I would have no hesitationin revisiting Mr Gulati and KIMS Hospital. Quote

Over the last 30 years I have needed to have many BCCs removed, many from my face. Some have been removed without a trace while others have left scars. Consequently I was a little worried as this time I needed surgery around my nose.

On arrival, Mr Gulati went to great lengths to set me at ease and to explain to me in clear details exactly what was required, and what my options were. Some of the options would have involved me seeing a different consultant.

I had researched Mr. Gulati's background and decided that he would probably be as good as I could get.

The appointment was made for two weeks' time.

On the day of the operation everything went very smoothly. I was extremely impressed with all the measures in place for the prevention of infections and the very vigorous system of checking on all aspects of the procedure: from my identity, what I was being treated for, the use of theatre instruments, dressings etc. While I was unable to see what was happening, even though I only needed a local anaesthetic, Mr. Gulati kept me informed of what he was doing throughout the procedure.

The aftercare and follow up procedures were very thorough and I am delighted with the outcome. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr Gulati to anybody needing surgery on their face. Quote
